Weekend To Do- Jill Platner Exhibit

Jill Platner has always made me insanely jealous. She is cuter than a button, has a buff surfer body, and unlike my handsmithed jewerly line dedemetal, she was able to sustain her business. Ugh... This week she opened a month long show of her large scale sculptures so now you can add master of all things metal to her resume. The installation can be seen in a gallery space right next to her store on Crobsy Street in Soho so after gazing her beautiful large scale work, you can treat yourself to a petite something at her shop. Gosh darn it.. the only thing that might smooth our feathers now is a pair of her gold earrings.

QR Codes A Waste Of Time (?)

Yes QR codes are still the trend du jour with retailers including Barney's, Bloomies, Bergdorf's, and more using the platform to promote products and special events. But we are not buying the hype. If early adopters are not grabbing their phones to scan every code found in a magazine, billboard, or on a store shelf do you think the average American will?  Here is our theory, if you make a customer work too hard to find out more information given to them by an advertiser they will pass. It is not the same as receiving information from a friend or community which is at the core of mass adoption. This is why we believe QR codes will join the bone yard along with store "apps" created by retailers who should have just built a mobile web site. 

FYI, this post was inspired by a story posted on Luxury Daily today. We don't mean to poke fun, but isn't that a "Marketing for Dummies" book on the shelf behind this expert?

Royal Wedding Fun Facts

Now that the royal wedding is over and we know who designed Kate's dress, we want to reveal other fun facts about the event.

• The wedding featured about $800,000 in flowers
• The cake cost a whopping $80,000
• The world's most expensive wedding of course was Lady Di's at 48 million. There is a slight chance that Kate's wedding, quelle surprise cost less!
• The wedding, which was considered a holiday in the UK, cost the country close to 10 billion dollars
• Yes, there is a Foursquare page for the Royal Wedding. We also found several Facebook pages. The largest from 2 for Couples (we have NO idea who that is) and a second page from the  BBC.
  

The Gritty Pretty tried to get up at 3AM to attend the party from the comfort of our Tempur-Pedic bed, but we just got back from prospecting for work in New Orleans and it might take us another week to recover. Too many Daiquiris obtained from drive thru establishments.
