New Twitter Followers: Seattle Fashion, Fantabulously Frugal, & Shoe Sorority

New York, Milan, London, and Paris aren't the only cities to host fashion week. Any day of the year, trust me, fashion week is happening SOMEWHERE. Locations across the globe, including Athens, Warsaw, & Skopje (huh?) spend 7 days featuring local fashion talent. In the US, new cities step up to the fashion plate every year and some are really upping the ante. Last week, Betsy Johnson and Christian Sirano were the headliners for Nashville Fashion Week, although neither designer has ties to the Grand Ole Opry's hometown. Our new Twitter follower, @Seattlefashion is not the official organizer behind the northwestern city's fashion week but their Twitter page is a heavy supporter of local designers and style blogs that are participating. Seattle Fashion Week kicks off today.

We are certain we invented the word "fantabulous", a cross between fantastic and fabulous in 1999 at a Daryl K sample sale. Any who, our new Twitter follower @fantabulouslyfrugal features deals, steals, and shopping events in New York and Chicago. Shoptacular!

If there was a sisterhood in college with this Twitter page's name- I would have joined. @Shoessorority celebrates all the sexy but barely wearable heels we covet along with the talented bastards who design pretty but painful footwear.

Every Monday we post our favorite and not so favorite new Twitter followers from the week before. Want to share your Twitter stream? Follow us.

Our New Twitter Followers: Should You Follow Too?

Every Monday we post our favorite and not so favorite new Twitter followers from the week before. Want to share your Twitter stream? Follow us.

Attention wine lovers, here is a tip, follow @goodwinelist.  The page promotes a website edited by Stanley Sulowski, that features a weekly list of wines that are cheaply priced but full of flavor. Bravo!  But I do have one tiny complaint and a little suggestion. First more Pinot Noir recommendations! I only found 2.  Second, I am hoping in the future they can include a bottle locater function so readers can purchase selections in their geographic area or online. Hmmm sounds like a great phone app.  GoodCheapWineList can be found: @goodwinelist, http://goodcheapwinelist.com

You can’t be a bona fide New Yorker and NOT appreciate a fantabulous deal. After all, this is the city that coined the term "sample sale".  The @GetDealsNY twitter stream posts bargains galore each and every day.  But we feel a little duped. Upon closer inspection, every tweet is a Groupon deal. If the page is affiliated with Groupon (we believe it is) why not call the stream Groupon Deals NYC???? If you are looking for real big apple deals, from a transparent source, I suggest following TimeOut's deals Twitter stream, @nycdeals.  GetDealsNY can be found: @GetDealsNY

Across the pond there is a new fashion site in beta called Styloko that promises to bring global trends, styles, and products delivered in digestible portions daily.  The site also aggregates fabulous sales and deals. We love their Tweets and website, why? They don't hammer their fans with non-stop-sales messaging. Instead they provide fun, fashionable content to spark fan interest. Sadly their private preview for sales and deals is no longer taking new subscribers. Styloko can be found: @styloko, http://www.styloko.com

Tweet Peek: Andre Leon Tally

Almost every word out of Andre Leon Tally's mouth is "quotable".   Need proof? Go rent the September Issue or follow him on Twitter which he recently joined in December.  I can hear his booming voice as I read each tweet. He appears to be on a roll this week and posted on the micro-blogging platform 3 times, PLUS he is trying to get Grace Coddington to play a small role in the Twitterverse.

Norma Kamali's Fashion Week Presentation

Fashionista called it out prior to the Fashion 2.0 Social Media Awards. Burberry did win but perhaps it should have been Norma Kamali that won Innovator of the year for 2009.  Kamali was selling online before Burberry, had an iPhone app before Gucci,  and  started using social media and innovative technologies to enhance her customer's experience while her competitors were still debating whether to start a Twitter page. What other designer or brand uses Skype as a customer service tool besides Norma? Genius!

Yesterday we attended Norma Kamali's Fashion Week presentation at her Flagship store where mobile phone technology was incorporated into the experience.  The stark white walls and mesmerizing chanting by Kausthub Desikachar created the perfect environment for Kamali's stunning and timeless clothing. While we did not win the Walmart Trench Coat Lottery, we highly enjoyed using a phone app called ScanLife to scan barcodes placed in front of the exhibits to learn more about each collection or in some cases be entertained with beautiful imagery.  The videos above and below were the results of two scans from the presentation. To see more images from the event visit our Facebook page.

Betsey Johnson Makes Us Smile

The flamboyant designer known for ending every show with a cartwheel took us on a tour of the Wild West this past Valentine's Day. We were entertained by the parade of pistol wheeling bandits, a mustached Kelly Osborne ( above ) , eccentric salon girls, and prairie vagabonds.  The show also gave a nod to the passing of Alexander McQueen with a model marching out with red roses and a sign stating "Long Live McQueen". Prior to the show's start,  Kelly Osbourne  presented Betsey Johnson with a singing telegram for Valentine's Day as a thank you for being invited to appear in Betsey's NYC Fashion Week show. One thing for sure, whether you find the designer's clothes wearable or not- there is something about Johnson, from her infectious enthusiasm to her playful fabric patterns that makes us all smile.
